Ludwig Wittgenstein: Wörterbuch für Volks- und Bürgerschulen (1926)
1926 First Edition of the Wörterbuch has come onto the market - being sold in the UK. Serious rarity - not in any British or American libraries. You can find it at http://www.modernfirsteditions.com/product/wrterbuchfrvolk316027572.html
Here's the description from the website:
[2] pp 1-42. This is a rare First Edition of Wittgensteins’s 1926 Wörterbuch in its original binding. The dictionary was compiled while the philosopher worked as a teacher in rural Austria after he temporarily gave up philosophy in the 1920s. It was intended to be an aid to spelling for the elementary school children he taught. According to a recent catalogue by Bernard Quaritch, ‘few copies now survive’. This copy is in its original card binding with blue decorations and black-letter author and title statements in the centre of the front cover. The binding has survived well with no more than minor creasing towards the edge of the wraps. The text is printed on cheap paper which has slight browning. Overall the condition is VERY GOOD. The Wörterbuch is not found in any collection in Britain or America and was recently referred to in the Guardian Newspaper as 'rare and famous among collectors as Ludwig Wittgenstein's "other book" - only the second work published between hard covers in his lifetime by the thinker acknowledged as the pre-eminent genius of 20th century philosophy.’ A facsimile of Wittgenstein's introduction which was omitted from the First Edition is tipped in at the rear of this volume.
